CITY OF DALTON: Social Security Scam

Scam

City of Dalton issued the following announcement on Sept. 23.

Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has received many phone calls today about a Social Security scam going around the area. Individuals are posing as Social Security employees calling, and asking for personal information like your name, Social Security number, and bank account information. They are using automated phone numbers with local area codes, and even in some cases using the sheriff’s office non-emergency number to make the call seem local. You may also receive a “Robocall” or automated message stating that your social security number has been compromised. This is a scam.

If you are unable to decipher if the call is a scam or not, call the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 218-998-8555.

Whatever you do, don’t fall victim to a scam. Don’t give out personal information.
