The Douglas County Board of Commissioners recently discussed the need to review architectural plans for the former First Lutheran Church building on Douglas Street, plans for absentee voting and whether to increase pay for public officials.
The board kept compensation for themselves in the coming year at $29,000, according to Voice of Alexandria’s Tom Chorley. However, other elected officials received a 2.5% increase, the same as went to other county employees.
The board also approved a machine for counting absentee ballots in response to the anticipated increase for the November election, Chorley said. The cost of the machine is expected to be $3,470, which will be paid for using federal CARES Act funds.
The board also decided that a review of the architectural plans will be necessary in order to determine whether remodeling of the structure will actually cost more than the $3.8 million that was originally estimated, Chorley said.
