Minnesota voters are being asked to approve a building bond referendum of $37.95 million for West Central Area School District construction projects.

The West Central Area School District website states the money would be used to construct a new elementary school, expand space for career and technical education and create additional space for fitness.

“Board members, community members and staff have discussed health and safety issues and facility inadequacies of the elementary schools for years,” Superintendent Dale Hogie said in a post regarding the referendum on the district’s website. “Following these discussions and review of data over the last 13 months, the board concluded that a construction project is necessary to address facility deficiencies at North Elementary and South Elementary. The board also identified updates and additions that will greatly enhance educational opportunities at the Secondary School.”

West Central is just one many school districts in Minnesota featuring construction project referendums on this year’s election ballot, according to Finance & Commerce. Others include Park Rapids Area School District which is seeking $58.2 million and The Red Rock Central District which is asking for $41.67 million.
