Officials in the City of Willmar encourage residents to give feedback regarding the new ADA Transition Plan.
"From Oct. 20 to Nov. 9, residents will have an opportunity to review the City of Willmar’s new ADA Transition Plan on the project website and provide comments using a short survey and a comment box," the city's website stated. "An ADA Transition Plan is made to ensure pedestrian infrastructure throughout the city (including pedestrian ramps, sidewalks, trails, crosswalks and pedestrian signals) is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)."
According to the announcement, the plan has been in the works for the past year. The plan documents data collected for the project.
"Over the past year, the city performed a self-evaluation of the policies, practices and pedestrian infrastructure within the public street right-of-way to identify ADA deficiencies that pose barriers to safe and efficient access for all users," the website stated. "This data was included in a draft ADA Transition Plan that provides a plan, schedule and planning-level costs for upgrading pedestrian infrastructure and removing barriers to accessibility within the public right-of-way. All comments on the plan will be considered by the ADA Transition Plan team, city staff and public officials."
Residents can leave feedback with the City of Willmar ADA Coordinator, Sean Christensen by emailing him at schristensen@willmarmn.gov or by calling 320-235-4202.
