CITY OF MOORHEAD: Thin Ice: Ponds not safe for skating

Thin ice

City of Moorhead issued the following announcement.

Ice forming on the stormwater ponds is thin and therefore dangerous. While the weather will get colder, it is still not safe to skate on these ponds at any point during the winter due

to stormwater flows under the ice. The water movement can create weak spots even as the weather gets colder.

Parents, please have this safety discussion with your kids. Great alternatives are any of Moorhead’s 8 neighborhood skating rinks which will open as soon as the weather is

consistently cold enough for ice to form.

We ask for everyone’s cooperation for safety. Thank you!
