Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria) urges Gov. Tim Walz to use an account that is specifically earmarked for natural disaster recovery to rebuild Minneapolis in the wake of months of riots and protests that had a destructive effect on the city, according to a Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus press release.
Specifically, Ingebrigtsen wants to use the funds to help repair damage caused by fires over the summer.
“When Gov. Walz ran for office under the slogan 'One Minnesota,' nobody in Minnesota could have imagined this was the way he meant. Gov. Walz continues to circumnavigate the legislature at every opportunity he can. First, with COVID, now with our disaster recovery account," Ingebrigtsen said. "The governor’s actions are divisive, and he must rethink draining the disaster relief account to help Minneapolis rebuild after their riots. Those resources are only meant to help communities rebuild after tornadoes, flooding or other natural disasters, and now he’s leaving them without protection."
Walz has not yet shown a willingness to use the funds for this purpose, and it appears that no progress has been made on the issue in weeks.
