City of Moorhead issued the following announcement.
The SE Main|20 St|21 St underpass project is approximately 75 percent complete. Recent unseasonably warm weather has been good for construction progress. Current
construction focus has been the retaining wall along the Otter Tail Valley Railroad (OTVR) tracks. This wall is expected to be complete by spring of 2021 to allow the OTVR
permanent track to be installed in May. Following that, the remaining bridge (BNSF over SE Main Ave) will be constructed, and should be complete by late summer. Then the
permanent BNSF track would be constructed followed by the underpass roadway construction.
Beams for the remaining bridge were delivered to the site on December 10 - 11 and will be stored on site until installation in the summer of 2021. With typical weather and no other
unforeseen circumstances, the underpass is anticipated to be open to traffic in the late fall of 2021. The railroad wye connection and the closure of 1 Ave S to through traffic would
be completed in the summer of 2022.
There will be a break from active construction December 19 – January 4.
