Pressrelease

City Of Breckenridge issued the following announcement on Mar. 25.

Press Release #2

On March 23rd 2022, at 7:09 a.m., the Breckenridge Police Department and the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 400 block of 8th St. N for a report of a domestic violence incident. Officers secured the scene and began investigating the incident. Officers learned that an altercation occurred between a husband and wife at their residence. Officers found a 28-year-old male, deceased inside his home, with an apparent gunshot wound. Ambulance Service Incorporated responded to the scene as well, but neither party was transported by ambulance.

The Breckenridge Police Department requested the assistance of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office with investigating this incident. The male’s body was sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. No one was arrested during this incident and there is no threat to the public.

This incident was thoroughly investigated by the Breckenridge Police Department, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. It has been determined that the male died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This is all of the information that I can release due to the fact that Minnesota statute protects the identity of persons involved in a domestic related incident. Let’s all do our best to support all of the families involved. This was a very unfortunate and tragic event for our community.
