City Of Moorhead issued the following announcement on Apr. 29.
Happy national Arbor Day!
Moorhead was recently named a 2021 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The Moorhead Forestry Division is responsible for managing more than 27,000 public trees, and the City is proud to be recognized as a Tree City USA for the 36th year in a row!
In addition to being recognized as a Tree City, Moorhead has also received the 2021 Growth Award for the second consecutive year. This award recognizes that Moorhead is a growing metro, and our urban forestry program is growing to match it. The City of Moorhead recognizes the many benefits that our trees provide including shade, protection from wind, water filtration, erosion control, wildlife and pollinator habitat, and many others.
Moorhead will be observing Arbor Day on May 17, 2022, by planting 45 new trees at Village Green Sixth Park with Moorhead 4th graders. We will also be distributing Arbor Day coloring activities to Moorhead elementary school students for a chance to win an “I Love My Urban Forest” t-shirt.
