COUNTY OF OTTER TAIL: When we waste food, we also waste money and resources

Foodwaste

County Of Otter Tail issued the following announcement on Nov. 25.

When we waste food, we also waste money and resources. The average family of four will spend $1500 on food that is never eaten due to improper storage, not eating food before it goes bad, and buying or cooking too much at a time. When we throw away food, we waste the resources that went into producing it, including water, soil, energy, and more.

To prevent food waste at home:

- Shop your kitchen and use what you have

- Plan ahead and shop with meals in mind

- Create a shelf for ‘eat first’ items

- Freeze what you can’t eat

- Commit to eating all the food you buy!
