Madelia Fire Department to Commission New Hall

MADELIA— The new city government center in Madelia is nearing completion. December 4th has been chosen as the commissioning of the new facility to replace the historic 1916 facility in downtown Madelia. The new facility will house City Hall, the Police Department, and Madelia Fire Department.               “After a long time of planning and building, we have finally set a date for this exciting move-in,” said City Manager Chris Fischer.

Events Planned To Mark The Historical Day.

 Led by the vehicular equipment of the Madelia Police Department and the apparatus of Madelia Fire, they will pull out of their garages in downtown Madelia one last time and move to their new home at Main and Drew Avenue on the east side. Current and retired firefighters, law enforcement, and city staff will march along the route led by a bagpiper, a traditional instrument in the fire service.“The day is long anticipated”, adds Madelia Police Chief Rob Prescher, “the new building will serve the citizens of Madelia well for many years to come.”

Schedule of Events:

2:45 - Decommissioning of the Old City Hall (116 W Main Street) – Pastor Kelly Heide

3:00 - Procession of apparatus begins en route to 308 Drew Av NE led by MPD and Meredith Richmond (Call of the Loon Bagpiper)

3:15 -  Arrive at 308 Drew Av NE and assemble in the parking lot.

3:20 -  Commissioning of the new Madelia Government Center. Remarks by Mayor Mike Grote and Reverend Greg Volbrecht

3:25 -  Firefighters “push” in lead pumper #42 as Meredith plays Amazing Grace.

3:30 -  Event Concludes. Open House at a later date.
