SMSU Makes the Trek North for Dragon Open in Moorhead

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team continues action this Saturday in Moorhead for the Dragon Open. 

SMSU second-year head coach Chayse Jackson expects 12 athletes to compete at the open which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. 

Last Time Out: The Mustangs come in after having two different place winners at the Nebraska-Kearney Open, on Saturday, Nov. 19 … Caden Steffen led the way, going 3-1 and placing second at 184. He won two matches by decision and picked up a victory in the first tiebreaker period. During the meet, Steffen picked up victories over Quayin Short, a division I wrestler for the University of Wyoming and NAIA finalist Tyson Beauperthuv … Jacob Dykes placed fourth at the open, going 3-2 on the day with three decision victories … Both Sean Howk and Lucas Hodges finished the open at 2-2 at 157 and 165 respectively.

The Dragon Open will be the final open of the season for SMSU. The Mustangs will open their NSIC dual season at home on Friday, Dec. 9, against Northern State at 7 p.m.
