City Of Moorhead issued the following announcement on Dec. 29.

The City of Moorhead Planning Division recently partnered with Leah Spotts’ Small Business Development class at Moorhead High School Career Academy on "The Vacant Lot Project."  The project allowed students to research a vacant lot and explore opportunities on how it could create value and opportunity for the community.

Students researched business opportunities (self-designed or franchise) and picked a location in Moorhead that would be a good fit for their business. Students also researched zoning, future land-use, transportation infrastructure, and the recently adopted 2022 Onward Moorhead Comprehensive Plan to help determine a good location for their business.

As a capstone for the project, students pitched their ideas to planning staff and explained how and why a location would be a good fit for their business and customers. The ideas generated were thoughtful, inspired and a testament to our future community leaders.

City Assistant Planners also had an opportunity to talk about their careers and how they got interested in working for the City as well as career opportunities in City government.
