Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian Public School District secures first spot in student Reading test participation in 2021-22 school year

Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian Public School District ranked first in the Renville County for test participation, with 303 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year fell by 1.9% from the previous year.

Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 50% in 2021-22 school year.

Sixth grade students stood out with 20% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, seventh grade students had the most room for improvement, with 56% not meeting the expected standards.

Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian Public School District encompasses schools within Renville County and has a main office in Olivia.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
