Were students of Morris Area Public School District able to meet MCA and MTAS Reading testing expectations in 2021-22 school year?

Morris Area Public School District ranked first in the Stevens County for test participation, with 566 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Morris Area Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year fell by 1.4% from the previous year.

Morris Area Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 55% in 2021-22 school year.

Sixth grade students stood out with 21% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, eighth grade students had the most room for improvement, with 34% not meeting the expected standards.

Morris Area Public School District encompasses schools within Stevens County and has a main office in Morris.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
