Were students of New York Mills Public School District able to meet MCA and MTAS Reading testing expectations in 2021-22 school year?

New York Mills Public School District ranked third in the Otter Tail County for test participation, with 378 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of New York Mills Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year rose by 1.9% over the previous year.

New York Mills Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 49% in 2021-22 school year.

Fifth grade students stood out with 21% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, seventh grade students had the most room for improvement, with 39% not meeting the expected standards.

New York Mills Public School District encompasses schools within Otter Tail County and has a main office in New York Mills.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
