Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach and the Minnesota Republican congressional delegation have called on Governor Tim Walz to address alleged fraud in the Minnesota Department of Human Services' Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) program. In a letter, they demanded information on how fraud occurred under the administration, steps being taken to address it, and plans to prevent future incidents.
The HSS program was established in 2020 to help seniors and disabled individuals secure housing. It has come under investigation following federal raids related to fraud allegations. Initially expected to cost $2.6 million annually, claims reached $104 million in 2024 and over $60 million by mid-2025.
This request is part of ongoing efforts by the Minnesota Republican delegation to hold Governor Walz accountable for issues in taxpayer-funded programs.
"As Minnesota is facing a projected $6 billion deficit, this continued pattern of fraud in Minnesota is completely unacceptable," stated the lawmakers.
