Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, who represents Minnesota’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has joined other Republican members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation in urging Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith to support a continuing resolution to reopen the federal government. Fischbach, along with House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Congressman Brad Finstad, and Congressman Pete Stauber, sent a letter calling on the two Democratic senators to end what they describe as a “Democrats’ government shutdown.”
The letter criticizes Sens. Klobuchar and Smith for voting five times against moving forward with what the representatives call a clean and nonpartisan continuing resolution (CR). According to the signatories, this type of CR has been supported on a bipartisan basis thirteen times during the Biden Administration and was also backed by Democrats six months ago.
“This clean continuing resolution, which came with no policy riders, has been supported on a bipartisan basis thirteen times during the Biden Administration. It was also supported by Democrats just six months ago,” wrote the representatives. “It is unjust and irresponsible to hold the federal government hostage for partisan programs that are completely unrelated to government funding, including providing noncitizens with free healthcare, bailing out liberal news programs, and reversing provisions in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, all of which total $1.5 trillion in additional spending.”
Michelle Fischbach began serving in Congress in 2021 after replacing Collin Peterson. She previously served in the Minnesota Senate from 2017 to 2018. Born in Woodbury in 1965, she currently resides in Regal. Fischbach holds a BA from St. Cloud State University and earned her JD from William Mitchell College of Law.
