Rep. Tim Miller (R-Prinsburg) applauded the decision to use Prairie Correctional Facility as a COVID-19 hospital.
Four local hospitals are working to transform the facility, which will be called the Tri-County COVID Medical Center and will serve Chippewa, Lac Qui Parle and Swift counties, Swift County Monitor-News reported. The initial startup cost was $1 million.
Miller said he believed the temporary facility was the best option for the area.
"It was an innovative solution to a terrible problem and has been created by the partnering hospitals and supported by Swift, Chippewa, and Lac Que Parle Counties," Miller said in a Facebook post.
Miller said while he hasn't yet seen the work that is being completed, he has been told it will be turned into a fully-functioning recovery hospital.
"As we wade through the unknown future together we hope for the best but plan for the worst," Miller said. "This is their plan. Please pray for the sick, for the people on the front lines tending to the sick, and for a speedy end to this crisis."
