Minnesota State Representative Jim Joy has expressed concern about the state’s legislative process following the adjournment deadline on May 19. In a recent update to constituents, Joy said he and other House Republicans have continued working to reach agreements on policy issues.
Joy criticized Governor Tim Walz for leaving Minnesota during ongoing negotiations to campaign in South Carolina. Joy highlighted comments made by Walz while campaigning: “Maybe it's time for us to be a little meaner, a little bit more fierce, because we have to ferociously push back on this.” According to Joy, this approach does not help Minnesotans who are waiting for budget resolutions and increased safety measures.
He also referenced Representative Max Rymer’s statement on social media: “If Walz runs for re-election, his entire 3rd term will instantly be devoted to running for President. Given our spending, fraud, crime problems—how’s that remotely acceptable?”
Joy stated his intention to continue prioritizing local issues over national politics and assured residents of his commitment. He said he would keep constituents informed and encouraged them to hold leaders accountable.
